We enjoyed a very low key Fourth of July this year. We had wonderful weather (in the low 8o's!!) and lots of fun. The day culminated with our yearly fireworks extravaganza. And, yes, it is still light outside, but we were so not waiting until 9 o'clock for the sun to go down.
Brooke's initial reaction to the fireworks expressed something less than excitement. Notice the size of this particular firework. *ahem* It's huge.
Her terror dissipated eventually, but she still maintained a respectable distance. Of course, she had Anna to encourage her with multiple "It's okay, Brooke!"
Here's my girl coming to the "safe zone."
After we did all the fun exploding-type stuff, we moved on to the ubiquitous July 4th staple, the sparkler. I did not think Anna would hold one on her own, but she actually did several with no fear.
Brooke, too, showed a surprising lack of fear, and went in for the grab. Luckily, Daddy was on hand to save her little paw from a first degree burn.
After all that fun, the girls cooled down with a tasty popsicle (sugar free, of course---it was right before bedtime, after all)
So, there you have it, folks. No social engagements this year. Maybe next year we will be organized enough to participate in a cookout or a real fireworks show. :)
